Encyclopedia of engineering

This time one nice little book at 1920's. More precise 1928, Condensed Encyclopedia of Engineering. The Industrial Press, New Your City. Printed in USA. First edition. Size about 120mm x 180mm x 60mm. At condition I would say good.

Book contains list of technical words at alphabetical order and description to those words. I have not counted how many exact words there are, but cover page says about 4150 pcs in 1242 pages..

At Purpose of this book chapter describes that book is very suitable for all who is working with machines or mechanical subjects. And especially good when used with Machinery's Handbook. Also needs to remember that this is quite compact book and if needed more precise information should be looked some specific source. For example mentioned in this chapter that from Machinery's Encyclopedia.

Searching from book is quite easy. No separate index available, but there are alphabets printed and slots cut at fore edge. Also pages first and last word marked at top of each page.

Example if taken "Nickel Silver" material mentioned in previous post. Also known as "German Silver". German Silver can be found from under "G". Description is not going really deep, but contains main materials and their amounts. Main properties and short description of manufacturability.

One good example that this in still really old book is for example Asbestos. No mention that it is highly dangerous material when inhaled. And I bet this is not only one which dangerous is lift up after this period of time.

I think this is nice piece of engineering history and not completely useless still today. Really many things are just like it was 100 years ago. Laws of physics, material properties, naming of machine parts etc....
